I think the Old Testament of the Bible is an mostly allegorical. And also, the more I learn about things like evolution, the more I believe in God. Of course evolution isn't in the Bible, they didn't know about it when it was written, so how could it be.
I know! Learning about evolution just makes me think that God's just that much cooler!
Exactly. According to the Bible, Eve ate the apple off the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. People who interpret the Bible allegorically (like me) believe that this was when humans lost the knowledge of God. (So whenever we judge, we grow more distant from God.)
Exactly, Anonymous. It's like a child looking at a TV. The child can't comprehend all the mechanics behind it, so they pick a simpler explanation, like "there are little people living in there."
More so with video games.
I don't believe in that story literally, I was just saying how the Bible is interpreted. (It's like how you can read Harry Potter, interpret it, and take away "life lessons" from it, without believing in it.)
If you think gay marriage has to be banned so your marriage is more "special" (I can't think of a better word), then it probably wasn't in the first place.
Many people also forget that a lack of faith does not mean disproof
(I understand your sarcasm.) I laugh whenever I hear someone say they're protecting the "sanctity of marriage," because "sanctity" is basically the noun form of sacred, which means religiously important. We can't have our laws based solely on the "Word of God," because some people don't believe in God (I do), and it isn't fair to make people obey the laws of a deity in which they don't believe.
And even if it is a sin, didn't Jesus forgive our sins?
Good point. I personally believe in both, and I think that if there were definite proof that God existed, it would defeat the whole purpose of "faith."
Good point, Forgaymarriage. Last I checked, Jesus taught me to love my neighbor, heal the sick, feed the poor, clothe the naked, etc. and that by doing that to the lowest people on earth, I do it to the highest in heaven. That's why I'm liberal.
Yeah, @259060 (MeilK): That isn't really an excuse, and I'm sure your girlfriend/wife would understand.
I still do.
That is my exact opinion. It just isn't fair to us.
